Dogs, Cats, Racoons?

Nothing ever surprises the staff at the Animal Shelter, someone dropped off a bucket of racoon babies tonight after hours they rushed in the driveway with a brown car and spun their tires quickly getting away from the shelter, showing in the photos the baby racoons eyes are not even open yet.


Of course the shelter can not keep the 4 racoons with the many disease these little guys carry, DNR has been called to come and pick up the racoons. But this is my first experience seeing racoons babies and with some gloves we got to pick them up, poor little things were crying not having a clue what is going on.

GoodBye Layla

Cooper says goodbye to puppy Layla and her new forever family today, Copper thinks that Layla is one lucky little girl. Cooper is going to pray tonight that someone as special will find him soon at the animal shelter.

We wish Layla and her new family all the best from the LA Animal Shelter.

I know a few dogs like this, not all dogs like to be wet in fact some will go to great lengths to avoid water.

June 6 Remember this date

Saturday, June 6 will be a busy day for the LA Animal Shelter, our local Amherst Veterinary Hospital will be having a yard sale & BBQ , 10:00 am - 1:00 pm - Rain or Shine!!

Our volunteers will also be at the Community Fair at the Amherst Stadium, we are hoping to bring some of our adoptable pets to educate the community what the only Animal Shelter in Cumberland County does and how we operate. Hope to see you there.

Assisting a new Mother Cat

Yesterday the shelter receive a phone call from a local resident about a mother cat having a kitten in the yard by their home. One of our volunteers brought this mother & kitten to the Animal Shelter. The kitten was covered in dirt and mud and the volunteers cleaned the kitten up as well as they could. Shown here is Rebecca helping to calm the very stressed new mother cat, the mother cat is in shock and not understanding that she needs to feed her baby.

Dog Obedience

This is a cute picture, it's too bad dogs could not clean up after themselves. Have you ever notice some streets will have more 'droppings' then others? seems to depend on which dogs (humans) life in the area.

The Shelter is selling tickets on this beautiful Homemade Queen Size quilt, Tickets are $2.00 each and 3 for $5.00. the ticket will be drawn on February 13, 2010

Nalla and Biggie have gone home

Just a quick update that Nalla and Biggie have homes now. As the cycle goes, there are always 2 more cats to take their places at the shelter.
